|To all our valued BCCC supporters,|
As Melbourne’s fifth lockdown remains fresh in our minds, Sydney in their seventh week and SE Queensland also in lockdown, the Covid environment is still an uncertain one. Despite hope that lockdowns are a thing of the past, the reality is they are here to stay for sometime yet, and the impacts continue to be felt by us all.
BCCC is a charity event supporting RYDA and L2P programs. As we consider the current Covid environment, in which we’ve already commenced planning and outlaying working capital for the 2021 ride, we believe there are serious risks of last minute cancelations which are out of BCCC’s control. It is critical for the future of the event, and support of our charities, to conserve our working capital, and the BCCC committee have made the very difficult decision to cancel the event for 2021.
We are planning for our 10th anniversary ride to go ahead on Saturday 5 November 2022. Medical experts anticipate vaccination rates, as we move into 2022, will get to a point where lockdowns won’t be necessary. BCCC can plan with confidence and you can ride with certainty. Success!!
Your Bass Coast Cycle Challenge
In lieu of an official BCCC this year, we would like to issue a personal challenge to our riders.
Whether you are a Bass Coast local, or like to visit from other areas, we encourage you to get to beautiful Inverloch whenever you can, and ride one of our routes (see rides page for links to maps and ride profiles) with a few friends. You can connect to Strava (or an alternate ride timing app) and track your ride, clock your ride time, and also measure yourself against other riders who have ridden the route before you.
Or you can just enjoy a cruisy pedal with a few friends surrounded by some of Victoria’s most stunning scenery. While there won’t be the scores of other riders, or our amazing volunteers, or the atmosphere that makes the BCCC such a great event, you will still get to enjoy this beautiful area by bike.
Happy riding everyone and you shall hear from us again soon.
As always, thank you for your support, and we really cannot wait to see you all back in 2022.
Yours in riding,
Bass Coast Cycle Challenge organisers.
