David McKenzie (ride ambassador) and Gavin Slavin (event manager) speaking with local octogenarians Ken and Rod, both participated in the event.
Congratulations to all riders in making our 2nd Bass Coast Cycle Challenge a great success! You have taken on our challenge to help raise funds for road safety education in local secondary schools.
The program we are supporting, RYDA (www.ryda.org.au), is delivered through Rotary Australia by Road Safety Education Ltd a not-for-profit company that has developed an evidence based road safety program specifically designed for youth in our community.
Riders participating in the 121 km circuit, the largest contingent, took to the road at 8am from the Inverloch Hub with the first riders arriving back in just under 4 hours.
Riders tackled 4 distances, 121, 85, 53 and 42 km, encompassing some of the best scenery in Australia with one rider announcing “It was like riding on a movie set”.
Our numbers were well up on last year and above expectations, with some first time riders and a new family category being very popular. We also had one school group that used the ride as part of their training program for the Great Victorian Bike Ride.
We wish to make this a sustainable community event and with your support we can make this happen. A big thankyou to all riders.
To our Volunteers, without you our task would be impossible. Manning the drink stops and intersections, allowing for a safe ride and entertaining riders are just a part of what you achieved.
We hope you come back next year and bring your friends so we can enjoy your company again.
Did we snap you or your friends on course? Check out our photo gallery.
